Jimmy's Boa

I just completed my newest project-an activity pack on The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash!  This one was a lot of fun to make!  The teachers on my 1st grade team like love to make fun of me and roll their eyes when I bounce my ideas off of them, but that's ok- I know they secretely love it when I email their free files to them!! ;) Ha! I work with a great team and I love being the creative genius of the group (self-given title:).

So anyways, back to Jimmy and his disgusting snake...
We are not doing a weekly unit from our Treasures Reading Series this week, but instead doing acivities with different children's books.  I started the week with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.  Great book, dumb movie-IMO.  There are so many things to do with this book!  Sequencing, creative writing, compound words, fantasy and reality, and more.  After all of these wonderful activities you can go on to read  Pickles to Pittsburg, also by Judi Barrett and compare and contrast the two books.  I've found another book that is about food from the sky, Tomatoes From Mars by Arthur Yorkins.  Anytime I read about food falling out of the sky, I have my little firsties attention!
Today's book is Harry the Dirty Dog by Gene Zion.  I have memories of reading this book at my grandparents house when I was a little girl :)  I don't even like dogs, but sweet little Harry could come live at my house if he wanted!  With this book, I took the easy way out and did some writing and sequencing activities from Teacher's Helper Magazine.  Didn't have time to make anything because I was so busy with Jimmy and his Boa!
Jimmy's Boa is a 28 page unit I created that covers many skills {ABC order, noun/verb/adjective sort, creative writing, contractions, cause and effect, and identifying character problems}.  I hope you will check it out on TpT!  If you become a member of this blog and comment that you have, I will send you several pages of the unit for FREE!

  5. Harry the Dirty Dog has always been one of my favorites. I need to get Tomatoes From Mars...I have a daughter who goes by the name Mars, so I try to get as many Mars references as possible! (Her real name is Margaret...People are always relieved when they find that out!!)
