Monday Made It Linky & WANTED: New Bloggers

It is June 25th.  I’ve been out of school since May 25th.  I have pinned, researched, and tweaked ideas.  I have been to Michael’s, Target, and Wal-Mart. I had a wonderful pile of crafty items just begging for me to do something with them.  It was time to make some stuff!! So this weekend, with my 10 year old’s help, I made some stuff!!  We had paint, brushes, glue sticks, scrapbook paper, sparkly things, colorful clips, and gobs more everywhere! We had a great time. So here’s what we made…
I used these table baskets last year, but this year I wanted to jazz them up.  The baskets and cups are from the Dollar General.  The ribbon is from the $1 bin at Michael’s {You can get 2 baskets done out of 1 roll} and the pencil pail label is from Peace, Love, & Learning.  It is a free download-CLICK HERE-to go to her post.  The number is from a classroom theme set called Bright and Cheerful Bundle I bought from The Clutter Free Classroom.  If you haven’t seen what she’s created, you are missing out! CLICK HERE to see the cuteness.
I arrange my students’ desks in pods of 4 and place an empty desk on one end.  This is where the basket sits.  It holds much needed supplies-pencils, extra erasers & glue sticks, 4 small hand lenses, a 1 minute sand timer, monthly journals, etc.  Each person at the pod has a job.  We go over and over the responsibilities of each person.  It is person #2's  job to check the pencils each morning and sharpen the ones in the “sharpen please” cup.  Having the desks in pods, 1 extra desk at each pod, and the baskets worked really well for me last year.  They have all the supplies needed close by, and have a place to “turn in” papers-they stack them on the desk next to the basket.
A few weeks ago, I pinned that I wanted to make a frame for pictures on the 1st day of school. Here is the Pinterest pic I pinned:
My helpful little daughter painted my frame blue and together we attached the letters. I will temporarily put the year on the left side on the first day of school. This could not have been any easier.  Seriously.  After it was painted, I gave it a coat of Mod Podge for protection.  I was thinking about what to do with it since I hot glued the letters on- and taking them off could pull off the paint- so I decided that when I was finished snapping individuals, I will hang it on the wall with some sort of collage of the 1st day pics or a class pic.  Just to give it a purpose for the rest of the year. My next idea was to turn my classroom clipboards from boring old brown to something cute and exciting.  This idea is all over Pinterest.  You can paint them, Mod Podge them, use scrapbooking supplies, ribbon, sparkles, and on and on.  I wanted mine to be cute, but still flat so they could actually use them {ribbon was out}.  I wanted them to be cute, but not take days & days so, when one is inevitably ruined, I won’t have a heart attack {lots of methods were ruled out}.  I decided that the best thing for me was going to be covering them with scrapbook paper.  The paper was 5 for $1 at Michael’s {another reason why I went this route}.  I didn’t know this, but a 12x12 piece of paper is the perfect height for a clipboard! I only had to trim one side and cut out a notch at the top.  I didn’t research ways to attach the paper- I just went at it!  I decided to spray the back of the paper, after it was trimmed, with Elmer’s Craft Bond {basically spray glue. SO COOL!}.  I them placed it on the clipboard.  I let my daughter cut out some clip art and design a few.  We glued down the clip art with Mod Podge then gave the entire board a few coats of it as well.
When she got bored moved on to better and bigger things, I

finished the rest.

I  have a few home projects that I am bursting with pride about that I’d like to show off, if I may…… This house has had almost everything in it stained, painted, and/or power washed since May! During teacher appreciation week, I jokingly blogged that I was treating myself by having the bathroom remodeled. Well, it wasn’t totally a joke, I was kind of serious….

Your stuff is amazing and rather inspiring!!! It just may get me to get out there and get to gettin' in this department . . . that is if you aren't interested in flying out to Cali and doing it for me :)

  18. Wow, that's alot of transformation! I really want to know where you got those caddies that you used for your table baskets. I've been looking everywhere for caddies with both sides open, not divided on one side. Those look like they're just what I need.
