Feature Teacher: Michelle Hudgeons

10 {not your average} questions to help us get to know the REAL Michelle!
1. Name of blog and link: Smitten With First

2. Why did you start blogging?
Reading teaching blogs for endless hours! I loved being able to get online and feel a connection with so many other teachers around the world. I loved finding all these wonderful resources that were made by teachers, and seeing friendships that were made. I played with the idea for sometime, and finally, just went for it. I am always so excited to see what other teachers are doing in their classrooms!
3. Tell us a little about your teaching background.
I am going into my 4th year of teaching. Three of those years have been in first grade. My first year was split with Pre-K and third grade. The biggest moment of my teaching background has been this past year. It was such a “growing” year for me. It was my first year to be team leader for the first grade team. I was so incredibly nervous to take on this leadership role, but I enjoyed it so much. I am looking forward to doing it again this year. I was runner up as our school’s “Teacher of the Year.” My jaw seriously hit the floor on this one. I was so grateful and honored for that nomination. My heart was full of appreciation!
4. What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
Here are my top 5 from my soundtrack! Manic Monday, by The Bangles . I am not kidding you, every Monday morning, this is the song I am belting out loud while we are all running around packing last minute lunch boxes, finding a match to a shoe, making sure all teeth are brushed, breakfast is made, and out the door we rush. Sundays are definitely our “fun-days”…and well, Mondays, they are our CR-A-ZY days in The Hudgeons’ house. Santa Clause is Coming to Town, by Bruce Springsteen. We play this song every year while we decorate the Christmas tree. Baby, by Justin Beiber. Oh, yes, it’s true! We play this song and show off our dancing moves in the living room with curling iron microphones! A soundtrack just wouldn’t be complete without at least a few sappy songs, right?! God Gave Me You, by Dave Barnes. It reminds me of my two biggest loves. They are my sweetest gifts. This song also reminds me of how God handpicks the children for my room each year. They are placed with me for a reason, just as I am placed in each of their lives for a reason. When You Say Nothing At All, by Alison Krauss. This was our wedding song. I love everything about it.
5. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
Child birth! I do not know how I would have done it without my faith! I have never been so nervous, scared, anxious, and excited all at the same time. It is such an amazing gift.
6. What’s your favorite TV show?
Good Luck Charlie. My favorite character is Gabe. Yes, he is a stubborn little thang, but he is hilarious! Love that show!
7. Are you a Times New Roman or DJ Inkers kind of girl and why?
DJ Inkers! I like personality.
8. Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake?
26…and always looking forward to the next birthday. The Mr. told me when I hit 30, I won’t be so excited to see another candle on the cake, buuuut I beg to differ. Seeing another candle on the cake gives me a reminder of the memories built each year.
9. What was the last book you read?
Pinocchio. I am starting to feel like we have this book memorized by now.
10. What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
Can I say them all?!? I love a clean house, but cringe at the thought of cleaning. Thank Larry for my little 3 year old that loves to clean!
