New Teacher Blog Tuesday

Happy Tuesday! You made it though Monday-

Today I want to introduce you to Cindy from

1.                  Name of blog and link:
My Blog is called All Things Teachery &More!

2.                 Why did you start blogging?
I started blog stalking back in college during my student teaching looking for ideas to compliment my lessons.  I was hooked after that!!! I signed up for an actual blogger account in 2011. Then I became obsessed with Pinterest and well that is a WHOLE different story!

3.                  Tell us a little about your teaching background.
I started my teaching career working in a childcare center in the young 5’s/wrap around program. I finished my associates in Early Childhood Development and continued on to elementary education. In 2010 I earned my Bachelors in Elementary Ed with Language Art and ZA (Early Childhood).  I student taught in both 1st & 3rd grade. I am currently a Title 1 Math and Literacy Instructor for grades k-4 waiting for my forever home in a classroom.

4.                  What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
WOW! This is a hard one! There could be so many!
“God Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts- This is our wedding song. This sums up our dating story pretty well.
“My Best Friend” by Tim McGraw- My husband and I were best friends for 10 years before we started dating.  Through many of life’s up and downs we stood by on another no matter what.
“I’m Still a Guy” by Brad Paisley-My hubby played this for me at our wedding. He is a hunter, fisherman, works at Chrysler and doesn’t typically get dressed up. He wanted to remind me that no matter what “He is still a guy”. It was a surprise that was leaked to me and well I was able to get him back by handing him a pair of golf balls to him and saying you can be all the man you want but when you come home these get hung up along with your keys J

5.                 What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
·        The hardest thing that I have ever had to do was to support and help my mom decide to pull my father off of life support. He was sick for a long time and we knew that eventually the decision would need to be made. But you never are truly ready or think that the time will come.

Next up is Liz from

1.            Name of blog and link: Teaching in the Valley

2.                 Why did you start blogging? When I found out I was moving to Phoenix, I googled teaching in Phoenix and found my first teacher blog, which was Sandra Matadamas’ blog, Sweet Times in First. I read every single post, and after that, I started blog hopping around, absorbing wonderful ideas and tucking away information for a later use. I ultimately started blogging because I want to contribute back to the teachers that helped me out so much as well as provide information to other new bloggers like Sandra did for me.
3.                  Tell us a little about your teaching background. Very limited. I have yet to have my own classroom. But that all will change on August 8th, which is the first day of school at my new school! I’ll be teaching first grade! Before that, I did student teaching in kindergarten and I did some practica in a preschool, second grade, and third grade. I also completed on international internship in Sydney, Australia in a first grade, but that was less teaching and more observing.

4.                  What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
I’m pretty picky with my music, but these songs have a special meaning for me in some way or another: Chip on my Shoulder from Legally Blonde the Musical, I Believe by Stevie Wonder, Follow the Arrow by Rosi Golan, and songs by Chris Tomlin.

5.                 What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done? Leaving behind my family in Wisconsin to come to Phoenix. I didn’t really expect it to be as difficult as it was. I was in denial that it was actually happening, and when it was time to go, I just wasn’t emotionally ready. But on the plus side, I discovered that I can sob nonstop for one hour before hyperventilating…mmm, maybe that’s not a good thing :P

6.                 What’s your favorite TV show?
Even though there aren’t any new episodes, I still love Gilmore Girls. I also really like Degrassi The Next Generation, even though it’s meant for high schoolers. I’ve been watching it since I was in grade school and my parents watched the original episodes back in the day!

7.                  Are you a Times New Roman or DJ Inkers kind of girl and why?
Well, I hate Times New Roman, and I had to google DJ Inkers, but I really like what I found on DJ Inkers! It seems they have a lot of really cool and interesting fonts so I’ll have to remember that for later!

8.                 Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake?
23. March 25 is my birthday!

9.                 What was the last book you read?
Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares. Somehow I missed the memo that she wrote another Sisterhood book and discovered this in a bookstore. I was really surprised with how Ann wrote it, as it took place when all of the girls were 30 years old. It was full of twists and I was shocked and surprised multiple times.

10.            What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
I really hate taking out the trash. It’s smelly.

Last, but certainly not least is Tracy from

2.                 Why did you start blogging?
I have been following other blogs the past year.  It was my first year teaching and I couldn’t believe how many AMAZING teachers and blogs I discovered.  As I shared what I found with other teachers at my school, I was told over and over again that I should start blogging to share my creative ideas.  I guess at that point it clicked for me.  I also have the inspiring Lyndsey from A Year of Many Firsts teaching at my school!  She has been so helpful and has mentored me through every step!

3.                  Tell us a little about your teaching background.
When I started college I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up.  (Like many other college students!)  I majored in Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, but quickly realized after I graduated that I wanted to teach.  I enrolled and completed a one-year MAT program at Towson University.  The summer after I graduated I was offered a position at my internship school.  With teaching jobs being few and far between in my area I was ecstatic!

4.                  What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
Help! (Beatles)- Honestly, who doesn’t need help every now and again?!   My uncle also plays in a Beatles cover band… so obviously I am a groupie J
Sitting on the Dock of the Bay (Otis Redding)- I live on the Chesapeake Bay, hence the name of my blog!
Knee Deep (Zac Brown Band)- I love to do anything that involves water… laying out, swimming, boating, jet-skis, waterskiing, crabbing, fishing… you name it!

5.                 What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
This is a difficult question… I would have to say making it through high school with a smile on my face.  During my high school years my dad  and aunt passed away, and my house was destroyed in a hurricane.  It was a very trying time for me, but I was lucky enough to have amazing friends, family, and community to help my family pull through!

6.                 What’s your favorite TV show?
Without a doubt… Big Bang Theory & Criminal Minds J

7.                  Are you a Times New Roman or DJ Inkers kind of girl and why?
Definitely DJ Inkers … who doesn’t like unique & fun?

8.                 Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake?
Twenty-six

9.                 What was the last book you read?
The Fifty Shades of Grey Series… I know what your thinking!  I had to when it was all I heard about on the TV, radio, & at work!

10.            What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
Well, it used to be cleaning the shower until I started using a Magic Eraser.  Now I don’t mind that chore.  I would say cleaning up after my puppy.  Yuck!
