My Week in Review & a Freebie!

What a week!  This was the longest, busiest week I’ve had in a while.  I’m sure I said that the last full week before Christmas break, but that was so long ago I can’t even remember…  This was our first full week back since the holiday break.  The kids were pretty good!  We stayed busy with predictions, i-consonant-e, tens and ones, and space.
The first linky is with Doodle Bug Teaching.  The point is to share 5 random things from this week.
1.  I use Whole Brain Teaching in my classroom.  You can read about that {HERE}.  One of the components for classroom behavior is The Scoreboard.  You can read about that {HERE}.  So anyways, Up until Christmas break, the reward for more smilies than frownies was an extra 1 minute of recess.  Well, since it is to cold and/or rainy to go out now- I changed it to a 2 minute dance party at the end of the day.  They absolutely loved it!
2.  I started a writing unit put together by Deana Jump and DeeDee Wills.  I like it because it is laid out with daily lessons.  My students liked it too.  They worked so hard on the pieces they wrote this week!
3.  Report cards went home on Thursday.  I absolutely hate doing report cards.  I don’t know why, it’s not difficult, I just hate it. Ha!  BUT, I am proud of myself for finishing them on Wednesday BEFORE I left school!!  Usually I am working on them until around 10pm the night before they go home…Last year, they were so very detailed, but thankfully, they were changed this year.  Now we just give a grade (1, 2, 3, or 4) for each area of Common Core (Reading Literature, Writing, Speaking & Listening, etc.).

4.  Something fun from this week was teaching my kids how to play the math games on Greg Tang’s website!  We played Kakooma, Break Apart, Math Limbo, and Numskill.  They absolutely loved them!  We played a few rounds together in my room, through the projector, then went to the computer lab for some more practice.  I was able to go to a PD day with Greg Tang on January 2nd.  It was pretty cool.  It was a lot of math packed into one day, but really cool to hear it straight from him!

5.  I have saved the best for last!  On Wednesday, I was one of the top 3 nominees for Teacher of the Year at my school.  The winner was announced Friday.  Guess what?  It was ME!  I was, and still am, speechless and flattered.  It is kind of overwhelming to be chosen out of so many deserving teachers!  I teach with a whole school of teachers who deserve that title for various reasons.  I really do love my school and all of the people there!

The second linky is from Rowdy in First Grade.  the purpose is to tell one good thing from school and one good thing from home.

Something good from school: TEACHER OF THE YEAR!  Woohoo!  Still can’t believe it’s me.
I also revamped some of my monthly writing prompts and added a rubric.   They are in my TpT store if you are interested!
Something good from home:  My 5th grader made 8 A’s and 1 B on her report card!  So proud.  Poor thing currently has the flu, though. :(
Hop over to these blogs and link up for yourself!  It’s great fun!
Since you took the time to stop by and make it to the end of my post, I have a little gift for you!  I made this worksheet for my kids to practice tens and ones.  Just click on the image to download!

  1. Congratulations for Teacher of the Year!
I've never heard of Greg Tang, but his site sounds great, I'm going to check it out.

We did report cards this week too. Our district still gives letter grades(A B C D F ) for 1st grade. We have online gradebooks so as long as I keep up with my grades, report card time isn't too bad.

Hope your daughter feels better quickly.

    1. We used to give E's, S's and U's until a few years ago. Our A, B, C, D starts in 3rd grade. Greg Tang is great. You will probably recognize some of his children's books!
      Thanks for stopping by!
