Thanks for stopping by today!  As you may, or may not, know-every Tuesday I feature new bloggers.  If you would like to be featured, email me at dml8609@gmail.com

Today’s first blogger is Carol from

1.      Name of blog and link:  My blog is called Lines of Literacy

2.   Tell us about your blog and why you started it.    I started my blog after stumbling into it during a technology class.  I was soon addicted and wanted to find out how other bloggers made their blogs looks so "cool."  I just received my reading licensure, k-12, and changed the name to Lines of Literacy where I hope to collaborate with other amazing teachers in blog land.

3.     Tell us a little about your teaching background. I have taught kindergarten for 15 years at a small Catholic school and loved it.  Because of a job change for my husband, we will be moving soon. I just accepted a position as instructional coach with a focus on literacy and can't wait to begin....I am also a little scared:-)

4.     What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life? Lately Clouds by the late Zach Sobiech has been the focus. My son plays the drums for Zach and the band A Firm hand shake.  I am not sure why, but I love the song Closing Time by Semisonic.

5.    What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done? The hardest thing I have done is leaving my kindergarten position just two weeks ago. My children went to the same school as well . This school was my family.  I am sure I have done many other harder things but this is the most recent in my mind.

6.    What’s your favorite TV show? Big Bang Theory.....Love the humor and the fact that is alright to be who you are, science nerd, computer geek, book worm, etc.

7.    What is your favorite item of clothing and why? My scarf/poncho.  It can be worn as a scarf or used as a poncho if you feel cold or decide you do not like your chosen outfit.  It is also in my favorite color, berry purple.

8.    Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake? They did not all fit so I had 10.

9.    What was the last book you read? What are you going to read next? I love Jodi Picoult books.  I just finished her latest book, The Storyteller. I have also been reading many literacy books for my master's classes.  Best Practices in Literacy Instruction by Morrow and Gambrell is an amazing read for any reading teacher.

10. What was the last thing that you ate that you really shouldn’t of? I just had my son's grad party today.  I ate too much cake!!!

Our second blogger is Jessica from

1.             Name of blog and link:
The name of my blog is ‘Teacher Talk.’

2.           Tell us about your blog and why you started it: My blog is a mixture of teaching ideas, crafts, and fitness ideas/advice. I originally started the blog to share my experience as a first year teacher. I created it last summer and began blogging during the summer but once school began it fell to the wayside due to being so busy! As I am sure you can all imagine! In March I shared some of my struggles and much of my development as a brand new teacher is documented on my blog. I love looking back and seeing how much I have developed. Most of my development is due to other bloggers. I have gained so many ideas and 85% of my development is due to other bloggers & their sharing of ideas! In March I began blogging again and ever since then have been sharing my experiences and now getting into fitness & sharing ideas and inspiration there too!

3.             Tell us a little about your teaching background. I just completed my first year of teaching first grade. I went to Bowling Green State University and graduated in December of 2011. I received my first grade position five months after I graduated! I am one lucky girl! When I first began college though I actually went for fashion merchandising! I am very crafty & creative and I knew I could excel there but my heart has always been in teaching Ever since I was younger I always wanted to be a teacher and an author. I am still working on the author part. J

4.             What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life? Songs included on the soundtrack of my life would be anything Miranda Lambert! I love her music and her music has helped me get through many of my struggles! She has uplifting and sad songs that are very easy to relate to.

5.            What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
This one is pretty personal but the hardest thing I have done until this moment in my life is go through a custody dispute between my two parents. I was 16 at the time and my parents had been divorced since I was three. My mother and I weren’t getting along and I wanted to move to dads so I did and the relationship between my parents haven’t been the same and nor has my relationship with my father. It is a sad situation and it was tough for me. My mother and I are fine but the relationship between my father and I is strained. It is getting better but the next hardest thing for me will be walking down the isle on my wedding day. I struggle with this choice I have a step dad and a dad and it will just be a hard choice?...

6.            What’s your favorite TV show?
I have two: SMASH and Keeping Up with the Kardashians!

7.            What is your favorite item of clothing and why?
I love scarves! I can put on jeans and a solid tee and then a cute scarf and be set to go with some cute shoes!

8.            Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake?
The number of candles that appeared on my last birthday cake were 24! I only have a few more months until is hit the big 25!

9.            What was the last book you read? What are you going to read next?
I am not one who enjoys sitting down with a book so this may be bad but I honestly can’t remember. I enjoy reading professional reading so I would have to say the Café book would be the last book that I read. I am more into the blog and magazine reading. The book I will be reading next is, “The Next Step in Guided Reading,” by Jan Richardson! It should be here any day now!

10.         What was the last thing that you ate that you really shouldn’t of?
Am I aloud to say everything I ate this past weekend? My boyfriend’s grandmother passed last week so we had family get together all weekend with an abundance of food! Here are some of the things I had: cake, cookies, greasy pizza, beverages*, fried chicken, lasagna and pop! When I got this questionnaire last week and saw this questions I honestly couldn’t remember the last thing I ate that was just terrible because I have really been trying to be on the fitness & health path! Then I ate like that! Oh well, everything needs a weekend like that right? Let’s say I worked it off this morning with a ton of cardio and leg workouts!
