Want a new way to brag on your students?

I recently discovered Brag Tags.  My students now think I am even more awesome.
You can win your own!  Keep reading!

These Brag Tags are from Boost Promotions.  Brag Tags are plastic laminated tags used to motivate and reward students.  Kids love to collect them and display on a custom lanyard, chain necklace, or on their backpack. These fun, durable tags come in a huge assortment of colorful designs and in a wide range of themes.  You will find designs that include perfect attendance, honor roll, accelerated reader, citizenship and much, much more.  If for some reason they do not have a Brag Tag to fill your needs, we can easily customize a Brag Tag for your classroom, school or organization.
There are SO many designs to choose from that I had a hard time picking my 4 tags.  I chose the above designs because they recognized different areas and I knew every child in my room would eventually earn one.  I decided that I would put them on my students' backpacks.  They love it!

The Teacher Kits are a HUGE hit. You can save 50% off our regular prices when you order our special Teacher Kits, and the best part is YOU get to select the from our stock designs and shapes, making the kit completely customizable to suite YOUR needs. Welcome Elizabeth from:
1.      Name of blog and link:

2.   Tell us about your blog and why you started it.
I started the blog because I love the collaboration that is
happening between teachers on the internet! I have gotten
so many fabulous ideas from other teachers and I wanted to
be a part of such a great group of teachers!

3.     Tell us a little about your teaching background.
This is my fourth year of teaching Kindergarten. I taught
fourth grade for a half year right out of college and as much
as I loved it, I knew that my heart belonged to the little kids
     :)

4.     What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
Footloose- because it always gets me dancing :)

It’s a tie between 24 and Friday Night Lights. Too bad they
        are both off the air!

Let’s be honest here...what kind of Kindergarten teacher

    26

11.  Give us some links- Twitter, Pinterest, Teacher’s Pay Teachers, Facebook, a free teaching item etc.

Welcome Pamela from:

1.                  Name of blog and link: My blog is called Desktop Learning Adventures!

2.                 Tell us about your blog and why you started it.
When I joined TPT, everyone said the best way to get word out about what I do is to pin products and blog.  I figured out pinning and have that (sort of) organized, but the blog idea was still simmering, and frankly, overwhelming.  While I was making a really long unit, I came up with all these ideas I wanted to share with teachers, but they weren’t really product worthy-more just ideas that might be of interest to others.  I decided the only way I was going to figure it all out was to jump in and try it.  Evidently, I should have done it sooner, because I had 3 posts up almost immediately.  Guess I have more to say than I thought I did.

3.                  Tell us a little about your teaching background.
I taught over 20 years in the classroom, mostly 6th grade, self-contained and still in elementary. 13 of those years were in an at-risk school- differentiation at its best.   I LOVE everything math (highly qualified) and working with gifted kids. (6 hrs. away from a second masters in gifted ed. One masters was enough.)  I retired, but wasn’t finished working with kids- just finished with testing and paperwork.  So, I started an after-school enrichment company, Learning Adventures, LLC.  That has given me great exposure to the primary grades. Interestingly, most of my after-school “clubs” have been first through fourth graders.

4.                  What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
I have a very eclectic taste in music.  Anything Dan Fogelberg; I always loved hearing Pink Floyd, Another Brick in the Wall, on my way to school.  Mozart & Enya for the quieter moments.  My soundtrack changes with my mood or activity.  (Tennis definitely needs something livelier than classical!)

5.                 What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
There’ve been many things that were hard for me- life changes that always worked out for the better in the end.  Right now, getting my blog up and running the way I want it to be is quite a challenge.  I’m a perfectionist.

6.                 What’s your favorite TV show?  I’m quite fond of “Bones”, but it’s going a little off the deep end.  “White Collar” is entertaining. I prefer to stream shows so I don’t have to wait between seasons.  Completely enjoyed “Numb3rs”, after it was canceled.

7.                  Are you a Times New Roman or DJ Inkers kind of girl/guy and why?
Times New Roman, but really, I prefer Noteworthy or Arial or even, (yes, I’ll say it) Comic Sans!  J   Just not into cutesy.  But really, I could get addicted to buying fonts, so I stick to the basics!

8.                 Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake?
Here’s a math problem for you:
Even number; product of 2 primes; prime last year and will be again next year; the difference in the digits is 3.

9.                 What was the last book you read?
Seriously?!?  The only thing I have time to read are forum posts, blogs, and how to… on Google! J I have several started and I still love reading kids’ books (Hunger Games were amazingly well-written.)  I guess Steve Jobs was the last real book I read.  What an interesting man.

10.            What chore do you absolutely hate doing?  As a teacher- grading papers and report cards and entering data.  Now, keeping up with junk mail so Mount Massive doesn’t grow on our dining room table.

11.             Give us some links- Twitter, Pinterest, Teacher’s Pay Teachers, Facebook, a free teaching item etc.
FB isn’t set up yet.  I only have my personal account right now. I’ll link to my blog when I get that far.
Here’s my freebie: 36 BINGO

Wait a minute...you don't wear glasses!

That's what I heard time and time again when I first wore my cute new glasses from Firmoo.com.  There were lots of little whispers in my classroom-"LOOK!  She has on glasses!" and "Ohhh, she looks so pretty!"  HA!  Yes, it's true.  I have glasses, but I also have 20/20 vision.  What am I talking about? I'm talking about this awesome online eyeglasses company that sent me a pair of glasses to review!  It was so much fun.  Look at these adorable glasses I picked out-
Click the image above to go to my glasses.

My honest opinion about this company, selection of eye wear, and customer service is that they are WONDERFUL! The ordering was painless, the shipping was fast, and the customer service was outstanding.  Here are some facts you need to know about Firmoo.com:

Any hot glasses/sunglasses /goggles frames you want can be found on Firmoo.com, and all are available for both prescription lenses and non-prescription lenses. Are you desperate to have a new look? Now here is the chance, Firmoo.com has launched a First Pair Free Program to people  worldwide. You will absolutely fall in love with the excellent quality, affordable prices, fashionable designs, fast delivery and the good service after trying them with paying shipping only! You even can get a refund/exchange if you are not satisfied with them. It's totally Risk free, so why not have a try?

New Teacher Blog Tuesday & Some Freebies!

If you had Monday off, I certainly hope you enjoyed it!  I spent the day procrastinating doing my lesson plans!  I don’t know why I struggle with writing lesson plans every week.  I know what I am going to do, it’s just the getting them on paper part that I hate!  Anyone else suffer from this problem?
New Teacher Blog Tuesday
Anyways, here’s what you came for- our first new friend is Amber, from

1. Name of blog and link: Mrs. Laue’s Littles
2. Tell us about your blog and why you started it.
I have always loved looking at other people’s blogs and learning from them. I never thought that I really had it in me to do it myself. With some encouragement from friends and family I decided that I too could contribute. If my blog helps just one person, it is worth it. I have gained so many awesome ideas from blog hopping and truly feel I have become a better teacher because of it.

3. Tell us a little about your teaching background.
I have an interesting background in teaching. I began my career as our schools Art Teacher, after the first semester I was asked to do a semester long maternity leave in second grade. The following year I taught first grade and then was moved to kindergarten for 4 years. This year I am back in first grade with the same group of kids I had last year. As of now, the plan is for me to go back to kindergarten next year.

4. What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
1.God Gave Me You by Blake Shelton (My family is the single most important thing to me)
2. I’m In a Hurry by Alabama (I always seem to be on the go)
3.Summer Girls by LFO (I live for swimming, bbq’s, and fires with s’mores)
4. Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 (because I am a HORRIBLE dancer, but in my mind “I got the moves like Jagger” everytime I attempt to bust a move!)

5. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
*The hardest thing I have ever done is also the most rewarding…becoming a Mom for the first time. It was scary, exciting, nerve wrecking and phenomenal all at once. I won’t get into the back story right now, but parenthood was a journey for my husband and I with heartache before we were blessed.

6. What’s your favorite TV show?
Nashville and Chelsea Lately…a little drama and good laughs

7. Are you a Times New Roman or DJ Inkers kind of girl and why?
DJ Inkers for sure! Times New Roman…how average ;)

8. Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake?
29…AHHHHHHHHH will I really be 30 this year????

9. What was the last book you read?
The last book I read for fun was White Girl Problems by Babe Walker…raunchy and hilariously inappropriate. Not a book for everyone, but a book for everyone who likes adult humor.

10. What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
Laundry! I love my two girls but they create a ton of laundry!

11. Give us some links- Twitter, Pinterest, Teacher’s Pay Teachers, Facebook, a free teaching item etc.
Pinterest - http://pinterest.com/amberlaue/
Teachers Pay Teachers Store - http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Monkey-Madness
*most of what is in my TPT store is free
Here is a link to some free alphabet flash cards that are one of my most popular free items:
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Polka-Dot-Alphabet-Flashcards

Our second new blogger is Bex, from

1. Name of blog and link: Reading and Writing Redhead
2. Why did you start blogging?
I have always loved to read and write. I have written a novella for fun and used to write a lot on a live journal site. I also wrote for an online magazine awhile back but have not in a few years and missed it. I started getting involved in Teachers Pay Teachers, which connected me to many amazing blogs and teacher bloggers. They inspired me to start a teacher blog and share my experiences, ideas, and freebies with others. I have been loving it!

3. Tell us a little about your teaching background. I began as a language arts teaching assistant, then got my first job teaching second grade. I continued to teach second grade and have been at my current school for more than eleven years! I just complete my reading specialist degree and hope next fall to get a job in that area.

4. What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
My wonderful boyfriend would say the Brad Paisley song “She’s Everything” is all about me which is so sweet. I would say right this second, other songs would include “Keep your Head Up” by Andy Grammar and “The Middle” by Jimmy Eats World. I also am a huge Drive-by Truckers fan, and love Wilco, Brad Paisley, and the super Shelton/Lambert combo (you know who I am talking about!)

5. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
This is a toughie. I suppose when I went to Ireland for six months in college that was tough, but it turned out to be wonderful. I had never even been out of the country, and never lived out of my parents’ house or a dorm, and adjusted to being far away and being responsible for taking care of myself (budgeting, buying food, cleaning, managing the house). It was worth it!

6. What’s your favorite TV show?
I think overall, Friends is my all-time favorite show. In fact, I’m watching The One With the Girl from Poughkeepsie right now.

7. Are you a Times New Roman or DJ Inkers kind of girl and why?
I think DJ Inkers fonts are so fun and I personally prefer them, but I try and use more straightforward fonts for a lot of the work I make for my students.

8. Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake?
Well, when my students ask, I tell them I was born in 1974, so if they can solve 2013-1974, they can get the answer.

9. What was the last book you read?
I like to read more than one book, so right now I am about to finish Jeneration X by Jen Lancaster, a hilarious memoir, and I am a few chapters into Deadlocked, a recent book from the Southern Vampire Series (aka the one that inspired the show True Blood).

10. What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
I don’t know what it is, but I DO not like ironing! I tend to pick out clothes that specifically need ironing!

New Teacher Blog Tuesday!

New Teacher Blog Tuesday
Our 1st blogger is from

1. Name of blog and link:
Granny Goes To School

2. Why did you start blogging?
My daughter (who is also a teacher) got me interested in blogging. She began sending me links that I could share with my students (Early Childhood Education students in a college preparation program). I was so thrilled to see how the "teaching world" has changed in the last 40 years. When I first started teaching we were all so isolated. There was almost no opportunity to see what other teachers were doing in their classrooms. I LOVE what the internet/blogs have done to help us connect and share with each other. I also love creating "craftivities" and learning games. My blog has given me a chance to share.

3. Tell us a little about your teaching background.
I began teaching 40 years ago...yikes!!! I began in a Prek classroom and moved to kindergarten/1st grade. I now teach Early Childhood Education at a college in Arizona. I also volunteer one morning a week in both kindergarten and 1st grade classrooms.

4. What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
"That's the Power of Love"... because I believe the most important thing we can model for our students is kindness, love, understanding, and acceptance.
"Fireball" - I still have TONS of energy. I get teased all the time about being the "energizer bunny" that never slows down.

5. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
I was a single mom by the age of 20 with two beautiful little girls. I put myself through college while raising them. I had little to no financial support. That's just kind of how the 70's were. Although difficult, it was the most rewarding thing I have ever done. My daughters grew into amazing women. The experience also taught me that we can all rise to any challenge and come out stronger and better for it.

6. What’s your favorite TV show?
I absolutely love Downton Abbey (PBS) is one of the most engaging series on TV in years. PBS hit a home run on this one!

7. Are you a Times New Roman or DJ Inkers kind of girl and why?

DJ Inkers- I gravitate towards the whimsical. I also do a fair amount of mosaic and clay work which is ALWAYS described as very whimsical. I tend to be more playful than serious.

8. Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake?
61!

9. What was the last book you read?
Winter of the World by Ken Follett. He is an amazing author. This is part of a 20th century trilogy that is fabulous. If you like historical fiction- this is the series for you. Be sure to start with Fall of the Giants .

10. What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
I hate dusting! In Arizona it's a useless task. It is so dry and dusty that as soon as you have finished- it's dusty again. I hate wasting time.

Our next blogger is
1. Name of blog and link: The Classroom DJ – Music to Manage Your Classroom

2. Tell us about your blog and why you started it.
So first things first…I am not a teacher….but I am married to one. And after watching my wife spend countless hours at her school setting up her classroom, grading papers, preparing lesson plans, cutting out laminations (actually that is usually my job), and worrying about what she is going to wear the next day, I realized…her time is pretty limited.
Oh yeah, throw in the one year old son who is running amok around our house, and suddenly that time I thought she had, well that’s gone.
Somehow, I started thinking about it all, and I realized my wife probably isn’t the only teacher that feels like she doesn’t have a minute to do anything more than what is already on the plate.
So I started thinking to myself, what can I do to help out (other than cut laminated posters out)? and then it dawned on me…
Why don’t I do something for her class that I am actually good at and love doing?
And so began The Classroom DJ. A site where you can get ideas of music to play in your classroom for whatever the reason (parties, end of day, morning songs, transition songs) as well as request songs and playlists from me.
And the best part about it, if you have a computer and a set of speakers, you will be able to play the music straight from the site. It is like having your own DJ in your classroom.
3. Tell us a little about your teaching background.
Umm….again I am not a teacher but have been happily married to one for almost five years now. We also have a one year old son.

4. What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
The Lumineers- Ho Hey
The Wiggles-Toot Toot Chugga Chugga Big Red Car (Come on, I have a one year old)
Kenny Chesney-I Go Back

5. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
Built our house back in ’09 with the help of my father-in-law. Group effort but extremely time consuming and difficult.

6. What’s your favorite TV show?
Parks and Recreation and Shark Tank

7. Are you a Times New Roman or DJ Inkers kind of guy and why?
I can’t say I have heard of DJ Inkers but I would imagine since I am the Classroom DJ I would go with that.

8. Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake?
32

9. What was the last book you read?
The Snow Angel – Glen Beck

10. What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
Wiping countertops
