2. Tell us about your blog and why you started it...
My blog is a public place for all teachers to pop in and find useful ideas, tips, and freebies! I have always wandered the internet, which led me to venture into the world of blogging. During winter break, I decided to start my own blog to share, collaborate, and make new teaching friends [as cliche as that sounds]! I am very inspired by many well-known bloggers. It is my true goal to one day be invited to a convention to speak. (:
I chose Tailor-made Teaching as my blog header because although teaching cannot be individualized in every aspect, it can be tailored to your class, your students diversely, and you (of course!). On the other hand, tailor-made signifies being made by hand with detail, which resonates with me greatly. We put a lot of love, hard work, and dedication into what we do each day!
3. Tell us a little about your teaching background...
Long before I became ECED obsessed, I taught gymnastics, coached swimming, worked as a camp counselor and as a preschool teaching assistant. I graduated from Kent State University [woot-woot] with A LOT of classroom experience in both Pre-kindergarten and second grade. Now, I am entering into my second year of teaching first grade! I was a bit anxious about what first grade would look like compared to my other field experiences. It did not take me long to absolutely, positively fall madly in LOVE with firsties.
4. What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?...
I love an array of music genres... so I have to include songs that I have listened to continuously since I was just a teenager to now. This is therapeutic... as I dig through my iTunes!
Bubbly- Colbie Callait
Better People- India Arie
re: Stacks- Bon Iver
Angels on the Moon- Thriving Ivory
Chasing Cars- Snow Patrol
Same Changes- The Weepies
There- I feel good about my choices! (:
5. What's the hardest thing you've ever done?...
I would have to say moving out of my grandmother's home to live on my own. My family is really close, and my grandmother raised me on and off throughout my entire life! I say this because my grandmother had a brain bleed and stroke just three weeks ago. It has been hard to put aside guilt to face the reality that I had to leave her to pursue my teaching dream. She has always wanted to be a teacher and is THE reason I have had such success in life. I am hopeful that she will be able to listen to me ramble on about my upcoming class of firsties.
6. What's your favorite TV show?...
One Tree Hill hands down! I am just sad it's over.
New favorite = Parenthood
7. What is your favorite item of clothing and why?...
I am not sure I have one favorite item, but I do enjoy wearing dresses! It makes me look like I actually try to dress nice, but really... they are just so comfortable! Jeans and pants can feel restricting, so I like to put on my studded flats and flared waist dresses for sure.
8. Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake?...
9. What was the last book you read? What are you going to read next?...
My educational reads...
Last book- Lucy Calkins writing series (LOVED it & its impact in my first graders' writing)
Next book- because I have been reading up on Shanahanonliteracy.blogspot.com, I'm going to go with Teaching with the Common Core Standards for ELA (Pre-K-2) by Lesley Mandel Morrow PhD, Timothy Shanahan PhD, Karen Wixon, and Jennifer Del Nerro
10. What was the last thing you ate that you really shouldn't of?
Two bowls of sherbet... yesterday! Oops & Yummy.
