I'm so excited to introduce you to another new teacher blogger today!
Meet Roxy, a middle school blogger from California!
10 {not your average} questions to help us get to know the REAL you!
1. Name of blog and link:
2. Tell us about your blog and why you started it.
I decided to create my math blog after coming across a lot of great math blogs. I want to share my ideas and learn ideas new from other great math teachers.
I wanted to write about my journey as a math teacher in a middle school classroom. And how “I am selling a product to a market that doesn’t want it, but is forced by law to buy it”. ~ Dan Meyer
3. Tell us a little about your teaching background.
I have a multiple subject credential and taught elementary grades for four years. I also taught 7th Grade Math/Science Core. It was during this time that I found a love for teaching math and went back to school and got a single subject math credential and have been teaching math for six years.
I have a passion for teaching math and absolutely love it. I previously taught 8th Grade Honors Geometry , 7th Grade Honors Algebra and 8th Grade Common Core Math. I am currently teaching 8th Grade Common Core Math and Math Intervention and Support.
4. What songs are included on the soundtrack to your life?
I would say “Skyscraper” is the most apropos.
5. What’s the hardest thing you’ve ever done?
The hardest thing I have ever done would be to find out extremely bad news and picking up the pieces and continuing to go to work every day through it all, and giving 150% when I was really only capable of giving 25%. The bright side being that I was able to show my students that “life happens” and how to be strong through adversity.
6. What’s your favorite TV show?
I have a lot of favorite TV shows. My DVR has a full time job. Since I don’t have only one favorite, I am going to cheat and list a few. I love reality TV: Survivor, Master Chef, Food Network , Big Brother, Real World, TUF. I love John Stewart and Criminal Minds. Some of my favorite past shows are: Dexter and the Sopranos. I am a huge SOA fan and can’t wait until the next season. I also watch a lot of CNN and HLN.
7. What is your favorite item of clothing and why?
I would say my favorite item of clothing would be my flip flops, they are just way comfy. I wear flip flops year round and own too many to count.
8. Number of candles that appeared on your last birthday cake?
I am going to give the same answer I give my students: 29… I am 29 forever…..
9. What was the last book you read? What are you going to read next?
The last book I read was last summer on my cruise. I sadly don’t have much time to read. I love Jackie Collins, Mary Higgins Clark and Joy Fielding.
10. What was the last thing that you ate that you really shouldn’t of?
The last year I have made a lot of eating changes in my life after researching how many toxic ingredients and carcinogens were in our food. I am trying to stay away from processed foods and foods with a lot of unnatural ingredients. So I would say the last thing I ate that I shouldn’t have would be In-N-Out Burger when my niece and nephews came to visit.
